How to enable your browser's cookies.
What is a Cookie?
In computing, a cookie (also tracking cookie, browser cookie, and HTTP cookie) is a small piece of text stored on a user's computer by a web browser. It may contain bits of information such as user preferences, shopping cart contents, the identifier for a server-based session, or other data used by websites. Cookies are returned only to the Web server from which they were issued and to no other Web server.
Does THESITEBOX.COM use Cookies?
Yes, we use a Cookie to identify you as a user. This Cookie will also be used to store your shopping basket until such time as the order is placed, the basket is cleared or the cookie is deleted. Without Cookies enabled in your browser you will lose your shopping cart when you leave our website, keeping it enabled allows you to return at a later date with your shopping cart intact. We also use the cookie for general analytic purposes, this enables us to improve your shopping experience.
To switch cookies on or off, follow the instructions below for the browser version you are using.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7,8 and 9
- Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
- Click on the "Privacy" tab.
- Click on "Advanced" button.
- To enable cookies ensure the "Override automatic cookie handling" box and Accept First Party Cookies and Block Third Party Cookies are ticked. To disable ensure they are all unticked. Click "OK" to accept the changes.
NOTE: First Party Cookies are created by the site you are visiting and are safe. Third Party Cookies are created by others such as advertisers and these are the ones you do not want to accept.
Google Chrome
- Click on the "Spanner" icon and select "Settings" from the menu.
- Click on the "Under the Bonnet" tab.
- Click the "Content Settings" button in the "Privacy" section.
- To enable cookies Click "Allow local data to be set (recommended)". To disable them tick "Block sites from setting any data". You can pick and choose which sites cookies you use by using Manage Exceptions.
- You can now close the Settings windows.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+
- Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
- Click on the "Privacy" tab.
- To ensure cookies are enabled click the "Default" button (or manually slide the bar down to "Medium") under "Settings". You can disable cookies by sliding the bar to the strongest setting.
- Click "OK".
Mozilla Firefox
- Go to the "Tools" menu (PC) or the "Firefox" menu (MAC)
- Select "Options".
- Select the "Privacy" icon in the left panel.
- Check the box corresponding to "Accept Cookie from sites" and scroll through the "Keep Until" menu and choose the appropriate option. Newer versions of Firefox (v12 on) will have an option to Tell websites I do not want to be tracked, this should not be ticked if you wish to accept cookies, tick it to block cookies.
- Use the 'Exceptions' button to make specific exceptions to the rule to accept all cookies. Click this button, and you'll see a dialog box appear. Type the address of a Web site that you don't want to accept a cookie from. Once you've typed in the URL, select 1 of the 3 buttons 'Block,' 'Allow For Session,' or 'Allow.'
- Close the box and then click on 'Show Cookies' to see all the current cookies on your computer. Finally, to enable cookies in Firefox click 'OK' for Windows or close the preferences box for a Mac.
- Click "OK" to save changes.
Netscape 7.1/Mozilla 5.0
- Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu.
- Click on the arrow next to "Privacy & Security" in the scrolling window to expand.
- Under "Privacy & Security", select "Cookies."
- Select the most appropriate setting to enable or disable cookies.
- Click "OK".
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x
- Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
- Click on the "Security" tab.
- Click the "Custom Level" button.
- Scroll down to the "Cookies" section.
- To enable:
- Set "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" to "Enable". Set to "Disable" to reject cookies.
- Set "Allow per-session cookies" to "Enable". Set to "Disable" to reject cookies.
- Click "OK".
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x
- Select "Internet Options" from the View menu.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Scroll down to find "Cookies" within the "Security" section.
- Select your desired Cookie setting.
- Click "OK".
Netscape Communicator 4.x
- Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu.
- Find the "Cookies" section in the "Advanced" category.
- To enable:
- Select your desired Cookie setting.
- Click "OK".
Safari v4 & 5
- Select "Preferences" from the Safari menu.
- Click on the "Privacy" tab.
- Under the "Block Cookies" section select the appropriate setting. You have the choice of Never, Always or block only From Third Parties and Advertisers.
